Who Really Gave Meghan Markle Her Cartier Watch?

The eyes of the world are on her now. The American divorcee who will marry the future King of England’s brother.

However, Meghan Markle isn’t new to the spotlight. She’s a star in her own right in the American TV legal drama, Suits.

Though she will not show up anymore on the TV series come its 8^th season (of course), it was significant that during the series’ third season, way before she even met Prince Harry, she bought herself a £5,000 Cartier Tank Française watch, a brand favored by her soon-to-be mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Meghan even had a very common royal touch done to it, she had it inscribed with “From MM to MM” explaining in 2015 that she plans to give it to her future daughter.

Watches and jewelry get normally passed from one royal parent to an offspring and is normal and expected as much as trust funds are for any new member of the family.

However, upon her marriage, we might be seeing Meghan with the watch of Princess Diana.

It’s said that when the princess died, Prince William and Prince Harry took a ‘keepsake’ from Princess Diana’s jewelry collection. Prince William chose her watch (a gift from the princesses’ father, Earl Spencer) and Prince Harry got her ring.

However, the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William’s wife got to have the sapphire ring because there was an understanding between brothers that whoever gets to propose first will get the ring and they would swap their keepsakes.

Surely royal watchers will have all eyes on Meghan’s wrist upon her first engagement as the Duchess of Sussex.
